Over the next three years he had a turbulent journey on the road to finding stability.
Initially, Eduardo had nowhere to turn. But The Connection, the day centre that receives funding from St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity (SMITFC), became a consistent source of support: a warm place to go, hot meals, a shower and somewhere to wash his clothes. They also helped him replace a stolen passport, access legal aid, find work, clothing, and stay connected to services even through early relapses.
In 2026 Eduardo found an opportunity for a new life in Scotland: a job in hospitality that came with accommodation. However, he wouldn’t be able to take the job unless he could find the funds to get there and the clothes he needed. That’s where Marina and the wider Connections team continued to support. They ensured he had the money for transport, and the right shoes and clothes to start his new life.
Eduardo is now thriving in the Scottish countryside. He still keeps in touch with the team and sends Marina updates. He has just been offered a permanent contract and a promotion, has a new studio flat overlooking the hills and beautiful countryside, and says that for the first time, he feels happy and fully in control of his life.
Marina, Connections keyworker explained:
“We may have facilitated a few things, but you had it in you. Even in your darkest moment. I really did always have faith in you”
