• Project focus: Providing supported-lodging for refugees in Glasgow
  • Who it supports: Newly recognised refugees
  • Location: Scotland

Positive Action in Housing (PAiH) is a longstanding BME-led housing and homelessness charity operating across Scotland. PAiH has supported refugees, asylum seekers and migrant communities since 1995, delivering housing advice, homelessness prevention, casework, advocacy and emergency accommodation support. Its flagship Room for Refugees programme has operated continuously since 2002 and is widely recognised as the UK’s longest-running refugee hosting scheme.

Using St Martin-in-the-Felds Charity funding, Positive Action in Housing will pilot a new supported lodging scheme to complement the Room for Refugees programme. The project aims to support refugees who have received refugee status but continue to face significant barriers accessing affordable housing.

The project responds to a growing gap for newly recognised refugees who have access to benefits and support but continue to struggle to secure affordable accommodation within an increasingly inaccessible private rented sector. The pilot will enable hosts to offer affordable paid lodging arrangements, creating a bridge between emergency hosting and independent housing.
