Head of Communications – 12 Month Contract

For 99 years, St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity has partnered with BBC Radio 4 to deliver our annual Christmas appeal. . As we approach the 100th anniversary of our first Christmas Appeal, this presents a significant opportunity to amplify what we do, showcase the difference our work makes, and engage new and existing audiences.

To support us with this appeal we are looking for a  Head of Communications to support with the delivery of a communications strategy  to make the most of this opportunity. This  role will help shape the theme and campaign content across BBC  and wider platforms and support the positioning of the organisation through a year-long centenary programme.

This is a fixed‑term role created specifically for the delivery of the centenary campaign.

People & Culture Manager

As People & Culture Manager, you will lead on creating an engaging, supportive and inclusive staff experience, strengthening everything from our culture and wellbeing to our learning and development offer. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead day‑to‑day HR operations, building a trusted and proactive People function.
  • Support in the development and delivery of the People Strategy to ensure it’s aligned to the organisations new 5-year strategy.
  • Develop and deliver the charity’s EDI Action Plan, chairing the EDI Steering Group and driving inclusive practice across the organisation.
  • Review and refine HR policies and processes to ensure they remain legally compliant, effective and values‑driven.
  • Oversee recruitment and selection processes to attract, hire and retain talented individuals.

Operations & Governance Manager

In this role will, you will play a key part in ensuring our governance, systems and day‑to‑day operations run smoothly and efficiently, enabling the whole organisation to deliver its best work for people experiencing homelessness. Responsibilities include:

  • Governance: Act as Board and committee secretary, maintaining high‑quality agendas, papers, minutes and action tracking.
  • Operations Management: Manage the day-to-day, back-office operational business processes of the charity, including elements of finance and office and facilities management.
  • Strategic Planning: Work with the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees to implement the charity’s operational objectives to support the overarching strategic plan.
  • Risk and Compliance Management: Identify and manage compliance & operational risks to the charity, ensuring there are robust risk management processes in place.
